Process
How the system works
A wastewater treatment plant cleans what the property produces in stages, each one taking the water a step closer to safe reuse or discharge.
Screening
Incoming flow passes through screens that catch solids and grit.
Primary settling
Heavier solids settle out and are drawn off as sludge.
Biological treatment
Microorganisms consume the dissolved organic matter. This is the core of the process, run as an activated sludge, MBR, or SBR system depending on the site.
Filtration and polishing
Membranes or filters remove what is left, including the nutrients that damage reefs.
Disinfection
UV or chemical treatment kills pathogens so the water is safe.
Reuse or discharge
Clean effluent is reused for irrigation or discharged under permit, and the collected solids are handled separately.
The output is water clean enough to put back to work, not just clean enough to dump.
Scope
What we build
We approach wastewater treatment plant construction as a build, not a rented skid. As a wastewater treatment contractor that self-performs, we deliver:
- Package wastewater treatment plants where a compact, modular footprint matters
- MBR and SBR systems for high-quality effluent and reuse
- Systems sized for resort and hospitality flows, and industrial wastewater treatment where back-of-house streams need it
- Reuse-ready plants that feed treated water straight to irrigation
Every wastewater treatment system we build covers the full chain: collection, treatment, disinfection, solids handling, and reuse or permitted discharge.
We build in redundancy so the plant never stops, and we deliver it as one accountable build alongside the rest of the resort.
Timing
Designed in, not bolted on
On island projects, wastewater is usually the afterthought. That is exactly how it becomes a problem.
And it never stands alone:
Water, power, and waste, built as one system. That is what keeps a remote property running cleanly.
Why Stabilis
Why owners choose Stabilis
Compliance handled as relief.
Effluent standards, discharge permits, and reef protection are engineered into the plant, not left for you to defend later.
Cost you can plan around.
The real number comes out of pre-construction, priced against your actual flow and effluent target.
A plant that never stops.
Redundancy keeps treatment running at full occupancy and through outages.
Reuse that lowers the bill.
Treated water offsets irrigation and desalination demand, so the plant pays part of its own way.
Resilience off the grid.
The property manages its own waste through the storm season that overwhelms regional systems.
One builder accountable for all of it.
We design the plant in and self-perform the build, so there is no gap between promise and delivery.
Coverage
Where this matters
Our wastewater treatment services are core work where we build: the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the island and coastal markets of Florida and Texas.
These are places with no municipal sewer and sensitive water all around, where water and wastewater treatment has to happen on the property or not at all. It is the remote, high-stakes work we are built for.

Part of a complete system
Wastewater is one of four systems that let a remote property run on its own, and it pays off most when it is planned with the others, especially reuse feeding back into your water supply.
See how the four fit together on the Resort Infrastructure overview, and how any of them gets built on How We Deliver.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does a wastewater treatment plant work?
It cleans the property’s wastewater in stages: screening removes solids, biological treatment lets microorganisms break down organic matter, and filtration and disinfection polish the water. The result is reused for irrigation or discharged under permit, and the solids are treated and handled separately.
What is the wastewater treatment process?
The standard sequence is preliminary screening, primary settling, secondary biological treatment, tertiary filtration and nutrient removal, and disinfection. Each stage takes the water closer to a standard where it can be safely reused or returned to the environment.
What is wastewater treatment?
It is the process of removing solids, organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens from the water a property generates, so it can be reused or discharged without harming people or the environment. For a resort with no municipal sewer, it is what makes the property viable.
What are the types of wastewater treatment?
Treatment is grouped into primary (settling), secondary (biological), and tertiary (filtration and nutrient removal), delivered through systems such as activated sludge, membrane bioreactors (MBR), sequencing batch reactors (SBR), and package plants. Resort sites usually favor compact systems that produce reuse-quality water.
How much does a wastewater treatment plant cost?
It depends on daily flow, how clean the effluent has to be, the treatment technology, site conditions, and redundancy. There is no single price. The reliable figure comes from early pre-construction, built against your actual occupancy and permit requirements.
