About

We build resorts where the map runs out, and the systems that keep them running.

Stabilis Builders is a general contractor for hospitality and self-sufficient resorts. We build in the hardest places to reach, and we build the water, power, and waste systems that let those places run on their own.

Our specialty

A contractor with one hard specialty

We are a general contractor and construction manager with one hard specialty: building hospitality and resort projects on remote islands, and building the infrastructure that keeps them running.

That makes us more than a hospitality builder. We handle the civil and infrastructure side too, from the concrete superstructure to the desalination, wastewater, power, and solar that let a property stand on its own.

It is the work most contractors would rather not take on. It is the work we chose.

Our story

From Texas to the islands

Stabilis was founded in 2017 by Tyler and Samantha Edwards. We started in Texas, followed the work to the Caribbean, and stayed. Today almost everything we build is in the islands.

The name is Latin for steady, and the compass rose in our mark points the way. The owners kept their own names off the brand on purpose, so the whole team feels ownership of it.

What has not changed since day one is the mindset: a master builder that takes responsibility for the whole job, not a manager who hands the hard parts to someone else.

The difference

We build where others won't

Most contractors will build you a resort. Very few will build it on an island with no reliable water, no dependable grid, and no easy way to get materials there.

01Hospitality with the civil component. We build the hotel and the systems it depends on: desalination, wastewater, power, and solar, designed in from the start rather than bolted on later. See the four systems on our Resort Infrastructure overview.
02We self-perform, and we control the chain. We pour our own concrete superstructure and run our own shipping and logistics to the islands, so the schedule does not hinge on someone else's crew or someone else's boat. See how on How We Deliver.

By the numbers

The work behind the numbers

The question we hear most is how big are you, and how much do you build. Here is the short answer.

2017Established
$100M+Of work put in place
350,000+Man-hours
90%Employee retention
1.5M+Shipping miles to St. Thomas
6M lbsPrecast shipped to the islands
85%Of the team lives in the U.S. Virgin Islands

On time and in budget, on sites that make both hard.

What we stand on

What holds true on every project

Six things hold true on every project.

01Honesty, no exceptions.Straight answers on cost, schedule, and what a site will really take, even when the honest answer is the harder one.
02We build it ourselves.Self-performed structure and self-performed logistics. We own the outcome instead of handing it to a broker.
03Built for the hard places.Remote, logistically difficult island sites are not the exception for us. They are the specialty.
04Forward-looking.We keep testing better methods, from modeling to modular to robotics, in service of a more predictable build.
05Self-sufficient by design. We build properties that can run on their own water, power, and waste systems, cleanly and reliably.
06Steady and local.Reliable by name and by record, delivered by a team that mostly lives where it builds.

The complicated builds are where we do our best work. Take a look.

The team

Leadership and the team

Stabilis was founded by Tyler and Samantha Edwards and is run by a senior team with decades on the toughest kind of construction.

Between them the team carries more than 250 years of combined experience and over 100 years of it in the Virgin Islands specifically, backed by OSHA, first-aid, licensed-trade, and certified-diver credentials. Most of the team lives in the USVI, and several members work fluently across the region’s local languages.

The group

The Stabilis group

Getting a resort built on a remote island is a logistics problem as much as a construction one, so we own more of the chain than most.

One group, one accountable chain, from the port to the punch list.

Stabilis Builders is the general contractor and construction manager.
Our plumbing division brings that trade in-house (USVI license pending).
Our shipping company runs our own logistics to the islands.

Innovation

Innovation and technology

We are a builder that keeps looking for a better way to build.

That shows up as modular and prefabricated construction where it saves time, detailed modeling with Revit and Navisworks, and robotic total stations and site printing that put the plan on the ground with precision.

None of it is technology for its own sake. It is there to make a hard build more predictable.

Community

More than the build

We build more than projects in the places we work.

Our team has put up sports fields and skate parks, supported programs for disabled veterans, cared for abandoned racehorses, and volunteered on disaster relief at home and abroad.

We work in these communities because we are part of them, not just passing through.

Credentials

Capabilities and credentials

Licensed, credentialed, and ready to answer the hard questions before you ask them.

We hold general contractor licenses in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida, and we build in Texas, which requires no GC license. Our USVI plumbing license is pending. We have delivered federal and government work as a subcontractor, and we are candid about where that experience stands today.
